about

meet the doctor

Dr. Tamar Kaloustian graduated from the University of California, Irvine as a member of the Campuswide Honors Program and with a magna cum laude in 1995. She then graduated with honors from the Southern California College of Optometry in 1999 as a member of the honors Phi Beta Kappa society.

She created Market Optometrix in 2001 with the goal of incorporating affordable and quality eye care along with fashion forward eyewear. In 2011, Dr. Tamar sold Market Optometrix so that she could spend more time with her family and children. During that time, she worked part time at various Los Angeles optometry offices, becoming intimate with patients’ needs and wants. Working with corneal and glaucoma specialists, she fine tuned her medical skills, including various options and treatments for dry eyes. Dr. Tamar’s three sons are now grown, so she refocused on her career and started a new practice located inside ALEXANDER DAAS Opticians because she has always been committed to offering quality eye care in addition to beautiful, fashion forward eyewear which is exactly what ALEXANDER DAAS has been known for with their roots in San Francisco’s San Francisco Optics since 1979!

Over her 20+ years of experience, Dr. Tamar has mastered the art of prescribing. She will measure what you like (your subjective refraction), what you need (your objective refraction), and what will actually be the most comfortable correction for your every day needs (the art of prescribing). One of the ways she guarantees her patients will be happy with their final prescriptions is by using trial lenses to show her patients any change in prescription and discussing different lens options. Eye coordination and possible prism use is also a critical part of her prescription evaluation, so don’t worry if you cannot decide between ‘one or two’ or if both options look the same because Dr. Tamar will always double check every answer to guarantee a result that you will be pleased with.

Dr. Tamar is an avid reader and continuously stays well-informed on new and upcoming treatments, both medically and nutritionally. She has been married for 26 years, has three boys, and enjoys traveling, hiking, Pilates, visiting farmer’s markets, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
